Timber Framing Saw Horses

I spent the day helping my cousin and his friend fashion a pair of very heavy-duty saw horses for use in timber framing. Designed to support heavy timbers being worked, the posts and beams of the pieces are joined with double mortise and tenons for maximum strength.

Finished post with taper to transition with base piece. (foot)

Even though the oak was still moderately wet, it took a lot of effort to chop out the mortises. Mortising chisels and a bigger mallet would of been proper here, though my Pfeil bench chisels did admirably.

Just need the base pieces finished and pegs installed and these will be ready to support a truck. The tenons are intentionally left proud to help keep beams, and work in general, centered on the horse.
