Mallets

I have two mallets I bought used years ago, and I find lately with the current large joinery work being done I need a heavier-duty one. I made two different weights with the simple wedge handle design, based on the ones I presently have.

Chopping the angled mortise through the mallet head. I'm using a piece of air-dried Hop Hornbeam, very hard stuff.  

The handle blanks. They are made from some Sapele I had in my scrap box.
The thicker handle will be more comfortable.
